It’s that time when many people are busy making resolutions for the coming year-exercising more, eating better, saving money, doing this or that etc. Personally I think making resolutions can be a setup for failure because even though they are well intentioned they are often unrealistic since regular life and responsibilities impinge. So, to me it makes more sense to set goals with progress checkpoints along the way. This leaves room to readjust the goal(s) if necessary. I also like to reflect on the past year and look at what I have learned and how I can apply those lessons going forward. Maybe it’s not surprising that a lot of the little things are lessons learned from my Pet family-Webster the dog and his 3 kitties. For everyone reading this blog I hope the coming year is filled with love, kindness and special moments. Maybe some of my lessons learned in 2008 will resonate with you.

1) If all else fails, take a nap-things might look different when you wake up
2) Take 5 deep breaths
3) If an opportunity presents itself, go for it (this includes occasionally challenging the rules)
4) Don’t underestimate me-I may be small but I am mighty
5) Don’t miss an opportunity to make new friends
6) Even if I can’t always outwit you, I can always outlast and outplay you
7) Pick your battles and fight them well; let the rest go
8) Welcome each new day with all you’ve got
9) Purr with abandon (best while lying on your back and making kitty biscuits)
*To make kitty biscuits-knead the air with your front paws
10) Appreciate yourself, your family (even if they are at times annoying) and your friends
11) Bark and growl less, wag and purr more!

Happy New Year!
