In the summer, swimming pools provide much needed relief from the heat for Pets as well as people. If Pets have access to a swimming pool or a body of water, it is a good idea to provide an easy way for them to get out of the water. Pets, can tire out after swimming or even accidentally fall into a pool and may have difficulty finding their way back to dry land. Doggy docks or ramps can help your Pet safely make his way out of the water. Some ramps/dock will even work with a boat if you are on the lake or in a river.

The same concerns apply if you take your Pet on a boat or other watercrafts. Since Pets are, now more than ever part of the family, concerns for Pet safety have driven retailers to carry new products to help owners keep Pets safe. Lifejackets designed especially for Pets can be found on several Pet-related websites and in many Pet stores and boutiques, especially during the summer months.

Once your Pet is done swimming or playing in lakes, streams or river water, keep in mind they may need to be rinsed off or bathed in order to remove chemicals or other pollutants that can be licked or absorbed through the skin.

Keep an eye on your Pet’s ears as well. Excessive moisture in the ears, especially in some breeds can lead to ear infections. If you notice red or irritated looking eyes after swimming, this can may be an indication that a visit to the veterinarian is needed. Infection, irritation, or allergy issues may be the reason, and this needs medical attention.

With minimal preparation before a summer day around the water and a little clean up at the end of the day, you can guarantee a great outdoor adventure for you and your Pet.
